Two teenagers suspected of causing Victoria Street factory fire released without charge

Three other youths, two aged 15 and one aged 14, all who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been released pending further investigation.

The fire took place on July 31 at around 7pm and saw the former Bombardier and Whiteley’s Factory on Victoria Street - which was derelict - completely destroyed.

Investigations into the fire took place in the days and weeks that followed, leading to a CCTV appeal showing five youths at the scene who were taken in for questioning - all who have now been released without charge.

A police statement said: “Three teenagers, two aged 15 and one aged 14, have been released from police custody pending further investigation following a successful CCTV appeal.

“Two others, one aged 15 and one aged 16, have been released with no further action to be taken.

“We are still appealing for information about the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call us on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 869 of July 31, 2018.”
