Trip to help children in Cambodia

Sixteen students and three staff from Swanwick Hall School will be travelling half way around the world to Phnom Penh in Cambodia to visit New Future for Children (NFC) and help change their lives.

In October 2015, the group will travel to NFC, an orphanage and childrens’ centre, to work in partnership with the children living in the centre on a collaborative project.

But the school is appealing to the local community and businesses to help pay for cost of the visit.

So far the school have sent £3,000 over the last 12 months to help feed and house the centre’s children.

Joseph Bull, trip leader and foreign languages teacher, said: “This is a great opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons and improve the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in the world. We will all be working hard to raise the funds for this visit, and we are hopeful that the local community will support us in this venture.”

It was suggested by head teacher, Jonathan Fawcett, last year that the children should visit Cambodia to allow students to see the fruits of their efforts and to continue building the links between the two organisations. Olympia Sisson, a student at the school, said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I’m looking forward to interacting with the children there and helping them.”
