Tributes to long-serving police officer

A service at Mansfield Baptist Church preceded the cremation of Mr John Arthur Dalby, aged 85, of Harvey Road, Mansfield.

Born in Shirebrook and a lifelong local resident, John was a policeman for 30 years and a police inspector when he retired in 1983.

His interests included gardening, bird watching, visiting and walking in Derbyshire, especially Chatsworth. He also liked sewing tapestries and reading.

John, who passed away at Berry Hill Care Home, on October 23, 2017, leaves his wife Jean, daughter Alison Brailsford and son Philip Dalby, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Floral tributes were from family and the National Association of Retired Police Officers. Donations in lieu of flowers were for John Eastwood Hospice.

The service was conducted by Pastor Mark Herd and arrangements were by Co-operative Funeralcare, Mansfield.
