Tree planting at Hucknall’s National Academy thanks to Greenwood grant.

In October 2013, Eddie Heath, site manager, applied to the Greenwood Forest, after hearing that he could apply for up to £500 towards the purchase of trees for the school grounds, from their Community Tree Planting Grant scheme.

Nick Wort, from the Greenwood Forest grant scheme contacted the Academy in December 2013, with the exciting news that their bid had been successful.

With the award of £330, the Academy purchased two apple trees, two crab apple trees, two pear trees and two plum trees.

With the help of the school gardener, Mark, students from the gardening club and the ANAG group planted the trees in an area near to their Epiphany Centre. The students are hoping that it will raise awareness of gardening and the importance of tree planting, as well as promoting healthy eating amongst our students.

You never know, in a few years’ time the Academy might be providing their school cafeteria – ARCHIEs, with locally sourced fruit.
