Travellers pledge to quit Mansfield business park

Travellers parked on the propsed site of an Aldi supermarket in Mansfield have pledged to move on tomorrow.

The group of travellers pitched their seven caravans on Oakleaf Close, behind The Golden Eagle pub, on Wednesday, January 27, having been moved on from their previous site in the town.

However, a member of the group said today, Monday, February 1, said: “We came from the town centre, we were moved on so we came here.

“We’ll be gone tomorrow, off to the next town probably.

“We know it’s private land, that’s why we keep moving.”

Nottinghamshire County Council said they were aware of the group, but would not be issuing any order to move on as it is the responsibility of the landowners.

A spokesman said: “We understand the travellers are parked on a road, which would fall under the local authority, but it’s not an adopted road yet, so, until then, it is the responsibility of the landowners.”

The road, owned as part of land just off Southwell Road West, is to become an entry point for a new Aldi store.

Site owners, Regal Sherwood Oaks, were unavailable for comment.
