You don’t need the train for a couple of Christmas events nearer to home: the Round House Christmas Market in Derby will be held on 16th and 17th November this year. To get there by bus, just hop on the ‘pronto’ from Mansfield to Nottingham (every 10 minutes) and then take the Red Arrow from Victoria Bus Station (also every 10 minutes) or the yourbus Citylink (every 20 minutes) to Derby.

Alternatively you can get ‘the nines’ (trent barton) from Mansfield or Sutton (every 15 minutes). This is a little slower, but there are no changes required.

East Coast Trains are offering special discounts on fares for groups as small as three people on journeys from any of their stations – such as Retford and Newark. This applies to groups of 3 to 9 people: you get a third off the fares (whether standard or first class), but you must book online at www.eastcoast.co.uk. For discounts on trains to London from Nottingham, try the Megabus website (uk.megabus.com) which offers discounted train fares as well as long distance coach travel.

Now for the alterations to local bus services:

Service 18 Mansfield to Berry Hill, Oak Tree and Crown Farm (Doyles) and services 23 and 23B, Mansfield to Langwith (Stagecoach) are now operating to revised timetables.

The ‘Calverton Connection’ linking Nottingham to Arnold and Calverton (Trent Barton) has had minor changes to late afternoon and Saturday morning journeys.

Trent Barton’s ‘Rainbow 1’ service from Alfreton and Selston, or Ripley to Eastwood and Nottingham will have a revised timetable from 1st December.
