Witness describes moment car 'spun out of control' in A38 four-car pile up in Sutton

A witness who was involved in an accident on the A38 in Ashfield has described the moment a car ‘spun out of control’

Emergency services responded to the incident at around 5.20pm yesterday (February 20).

Part of the road, close to King’s Mill Reservoir, had to be closed while the fire service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Police dealt with the incident.

A motorist who witnessed the crash said they came around the corner at the same time as a white car, and they both skidded.

The witness managed to regain control of their car, but watched as the driver of the white car almost collided with their vehicle, before spinning 180 degrees and collided with three cars on the opposite side of the road.

The motorist, who asked not to be named, added: “I remember everything clearly – I watched the driver of the car go past and almost plough into the side of me.

“I saw the look of panic on her face as she struggled to regain control.

“I put it down to the wet weather, no-one was speeding or pulled off too fast.

“It was qute busy, and traffic was backed up.”

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 5.20pm on 20 February 2020 to the A38, the junction with Kingsmill Res following reports of a collision between four vehicles.

“The road was blocked for a short period, but traffic was running normally at around 7pm.

“It's believed there was minor injuries to those involved.”
