Hilcote folk get improved public transport links

GETTING out and about should be a lot easier for Hilcote folk, thanks to a new bus service.

The Hilcote Connect service will run from Monday to Saturday and can divert short distances from the route to pick up or drop off passengers.

It will link Hilcote bus users with Alfreton, South Normanton, Blackwell, the East Midlands Designer Outlet and the Fulwood Industrial Estate, as well as Huthwaite and Sutton over the border in Nottinghamshire.

Derbyshire county councillor Simon Spencer, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We used to subsidise service 99 in this area but we withdrew the funding because the cost per passenger was high.

“This is a more efficient service offering value for money to help people get out and about.

“The fact that it can divert from the route for short distances will be particularly helpful for anyone who would otherwise find it difficult getting to the bus stop.”

Amber Valley Community Transport is running the service on behalf of the county council.

Trips must be booked in advance, between 9am-4pm, and bookings must be made at least one hour before departure.

Journeys before 10am must be booked the day before.

There is a flat rate fare of £2 per adult and £1 per child. Gold Card concessionary passes and b_line2 cards are also valid for use on the service.
