Drivers 'stuck for hours' in M1 closure between Chesterfield and Mansfield
Drivers say they have been stuck on the M1 ‘for hours’ due to severe delays following a crash between Chesterfield and Mansfield.
The M1 northbound remains closed J28 for Mansfield and J29 for Chesterfield due to the collision between a van and a car this afternoon (Tuesday, July 7).
Police, fire and air ambulance are all in attendance and the extent of any injuries is not yet known.
Delays are ‘severe’ approaching the closure, say Highways England, as a recovery operation gets underway.

The authority said the queue of traffic spans ‘five miles back to J27’ with average journeys taking 90 minutes longer than usual.
But @misvipertweets tweeted: “Bit longer than 90 minutes. My husband and two children have been stuck on the motorway for two and a half hours.”
Road users are advised to follow the hollow traingle diversion symbol and exit at J28 onto the A38 eastbound. More info on the diversion can be found here.
