Transport police investigate station death

British Transport Police are investigating the circumstances around the death of man who was hit by an on-coming train in Shirebrook.

The collision happened on the rail line at Shirebrook station, off Station Road, at 11pm, on Tuesday, April 22.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were called shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, 22 April to Shirebrook rail station following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from Derbyshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service and discovered a 72-year-old man from the Mansfield area had been struck and killed by a train.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and we will now assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.”
