Tragic teen Corah charity donates £400 to disabled toddler

A charity set up in memory of Kirkby teenager Corah Slaney has donated £400 to help a disabled toddler.

Corah, who suffered from mitochondrial disease, died in July 2015, aged 16.

Since then her family and friends have raised thousands for charity, particularly the Children’s Mitochondrial Disease Network.

Now her mum Lisa has teamed up with Morrisons at Kirkby - and team Corah is giving £400 to little Josh Lancashire of South Normanton who needs help moving around his home.

Lisa said; “On July 2 it will be three years since we lost our purple Princess.

“On her birthday in April we decided that we want not only help The Children’s Mitochondrial Disease Network but we wanted to help other families directly needing financial help.

“We heard of little Josh Lancashire from South Normanton who needed help moving around his home.

“His Auntie organised a 10k run to help the family raise funds.

“Team Corah wanted to help so we got together and with the fantastic generosity of Morrison’s at Kirkby customers team Corah did a bag pack.

“We are in a position to donate £400 to Josh and his family to help them put it to his Aunties sponsorship money to get him the equipment he needs.”

“We have called the helping hand fundraising we do for other families ‘Corah’s Song’ and launched this name on her birthday.

“Any fundraising we do in future to help any other families affected by Mitochondrial Disease will all come under Corah’s Song in her memory.

Corah’s family have raised thousands for charity with two concerts at Kirkby Festival Hall called ‘Raisetheroof4corah’

The second concert in November raised more than £7,000.

he whole community got behind the remarkable teenager after Chad highlighted the family’s campaign to raise thousands to pay for modifications to their home which would allow them to properly care for the former Ashfield School pupil.

Lisa was supported by her husband Carl in caring for Corah until she died. In 2016 she was awarded carer of the year in the Chad Pride awards.
