High Pavement is closed, and residents are told to keep windows and doors closed.
Crews from Ashfield, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire were deployed at 5.26 am to the building fire on Station Road, Sutton.
Currently, 12 fire engines are at the scene, and fire fighters from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire have been drafted in to help tackle the blaze.
