Toy appeal to spread festive cheer for kids

Toys and other children’s gifts are wanted for an annual Christmas appeal being run by a funeral directors.

Sheryl Carrington, funeral arranger at Co-operative Funeralcare, in New Ollerton, came up with the idea of collecting gifts to bring cheer to needy youngsters over the festive season.

The first appeal four years ago saw almost 900 presents donated and the initiative is still going strong.

Items have already started to stack up at the premises in Sherwood Drive and at the directors’ Mansfield branch, on Rosemary Street, where donations can also be dropped off.

Sheryl said: “All of the gifts will go to local children who live in difficult circumstances and are given out through the NSPCC and another local charity. People have been very generous in the past and we are hoping this year’s appeal will also be a huge success.”

Gifts should be unwrapped and suitable for children of any age up to 18. Items must be new. Toys, toiletries and knitted ware like hats, scarves and gloves are all welcomed.

The last day for donations is 18th December. For further details ring 01623 836090.
