Tour of Britain celebrates launch with Mansfield family fun day

Crowds turned out in force to celebrate  the launch of the Tour of Britain with a summer fest  organised by Mansfield District Council at King George V Park.

Mansfield will host the seventh stage of The Tour of Britain, which is one of the longest and most gruelling stages in the competition.

Katle Allsop, Mayor said: “The Tour of Britain is going to finish in Mansfield this year on September 8. There are going to be thousands and thousands of people, it’s going to be such an exiting day. I do hope many people will come out and enjoy the fun and the sun .”

“It was great to see so many families getting out and enjoying some school holiday fun in one of our award-winning parks.

The fun day gave families the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine on the first day of the school summer holidays.

There were plenty of attractions to keep the whole family busy, with an appreance from Mansfield Police and Notts Fire and Rescue service.

There was also a cycling skills competition, live music from the Maypole Goodtime Band and Mansfield and District Corps of Drums, pony rides, and a punch and judy show.

White Post Farm stole the show with their petting zoo. In the Arena children took part in the Wobbly Olympics, balance workshops and mixed sports activities.

Two Tour of Britain cyclists, Graham Briggs and Tobyn Horton turned up at the festival to help promote the race, meeting fans and posing for photos , and joined in the Go Extreme bike agility sessions.

Tobyn said that he we was looking forward to the challenge of the Nottinghamshire stage and a fast-paced, sprint finish in Mansfield.
