Top career tips from TV fashion guru

Fashion guru Caryn Franklin MBE has visited Selston High School to give students a unique insight into working in the world of fashion.

She spoke to Year 10 and 11 GCSE graphics, art and design and photography students as part of Clothes Show Live’s first ever school roadshow.

Caryn did a short presentation about Clothes Show Live and its education programme and then held a Q&A session.

This gave students the opportunity to discuss working in the fashion industry and to find out more about the range of career options on offer for young creatives.

Caryn, a former fashion editor, co-editor of 80s magazine i-D and broadcaster, said: “Clothes Show Live is always looking for new ways of communicating with their education audience, so going back to the classroom makes sense.

“There is a real opportunity here not only to inspire and bring to life the breadth of fashion careers on offer, but to have a glimpse of future talent.”

Kate McKinlay, subject leader for art and design at Selston, said that Caryn’s visit had been an ‘invaluable’ experience for the students.

“We hope that with her inspiration, motivation and our students’ continuing hard work and commitment, they may become some of the young creative stars of tomorrow,” she added.
