Your Chad reported last week how 15 adults and 30 children, of French, German and Norwegian origin, had pitched 12 caravans on Sutton Lawn land leased by Sutton Community Academy.

Lessons had to be adjusted as the academy could not use the land.

The travellers, who arrived on Sunday, June 18, were given a legal order to leave within seven days and a spokesman for Ashfield District Council, which was supporting the academy, said they left on Sunday, June 25.

The spokesman said: “The travellers left the Sutton Lawn site at about 3.30pm on Sunday.

“They left some refuse that was all bagged up and placed in one location. The district council cleansing crew went out yesterday to clear the bags as previously arranged.

“The site is now clear and no damage has occurred.”
