Tibshelf school celebrates completion of £15 million project

The new buildings at Tibshelf Community School include a standalone autism unit and teaching and sensory rooms.

Peter Crowe, head teacher, said pupils are overwhelmed with the new build.

“We are so pleased the project is finally complete. There have been many trials and tribulations after we lost the grant for funding in 2006 but the wait has been worth it.

“The pupils love the new facilities and they are being used to their full capacity.

“We are currently using the new drama studio to rehearse for our panto Cinderella.”

The school project, which was built by Derby-based construction firm G F Tomlinson, has been constructed with five interlinked buildings containing specialist and general teaching areas, offices, sports hall, library, drama facilities, dining area and offices.

Stuart Lawrence, managing director at G F Tomlinson Building Ltd, said: “We are very happy to have completed the state-of-the-art scheme at Tibshelf Community School which has been constructed to the very highest standards.

“It is a great asset for the local community and will be a fantastic teaching and learning environment for staff and young people in the area for years to come.”

Externally, facilities include an artificial turf pitch, a multi use games area, sports fields, car parking and bus bays.

The building has also been built so that it is as environmentally friendly as possible with several special features.
