Thug jailed for vicious assault on his partner

A Mansfield man has been jailed for four months after admitting a sickening assault on his partner.

Town magistrates were told how Jamie Strouther (24), of Pye Avenue, had grabbed his partner by the throat and squeezed with one hand while covering her mouth with the other.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, said Strouther had also punched and damaged two walls during the assault, which erupted after he demanded to see his partner’s mobile phone.

David Grant, defending, said: “The defendant acknowledges that the only option is a custodial sentence but he is entitled to credit for an early guilty plea.”

It emerged during the hearing that Strouther had committed the offences while on licence for a two-year jail sentence in relation to another serious domestic assault.

As she passed sentence a magistrate said: “This was a sustained attack at the victim’s home while a child was present.”

Strouther was also jailed for one month concurrently for criminal damage.

He was given a two-year restraining order not to contact his partner or visit her home address and made to pay £200 compensation.
