Thousands of homes built

More than 2,000 new ‘affordable homes’ have been built in Derbyshire, new figures have revealed.

It comes as nearly 200,000 affordable houses have been built nationally since April 2010, with 2,190 in Derbyshire. Of these new affordable homes were built in Derby.

Housing Minister Kris Hopkins welcomed the news declaring it a “a real success story”.

He said the figures showed there were 41,654 affordable homes started in the year up to March 2014 – 15 per cent higher than the previous year.

In addition 125,000 of the 170,000 homes planned as part of the Affordable Homes Programme,in which the Government is investing £19.5billion public and private funding, have now been delivered.

It means that since April 2010, more than 197,000 new affordable homes have been delivered.

In the East Midlands, a total of 13,160 affordable homes were built.

In Nottinghamshire 2,080 were built.
