Thoresby Colliery Benevolent Fund to be closed and donated to good causes

Thousands of pounds raised over the years by a colliery benevolent fund is to be distributed to good causes.

The Thoresby Colliery Benevolent fund has been closed following the recent closure of the pit, it has been announced.

Trevor Barker, secretary of the fund told Chad: “It was agreed at an extraordinary meeting that the fund would close on the 8th August 2015 and once the fund had met all of its obligations any remaining monies would be donated. This should be some time in October 2015.”

A final figure for the fund is not yet available. The beneficiaries will be Berry Hill Park Trust, Beaumond House Community Hospice, Thoresby Colliery Retired Miners Party Fund, British Heart Foundation and Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
