Jason Hanson, 35, from Forest Town, completed a fifty-mile bike ride from Forest Town to Bakewell on Saturday, raising £1,100 to try and help 10-month old boxer dog, Roxy.

Roxy, who belongs to Jason’s friend, has juvenile kidney disease, which requires 12-hour drip sessions to clear her system - something the insurance company has stopped paying out for.

So dog-lover Jason decided to cycle the 53.6 mile ride - which took him five and a half hours - to give Roxy a ‘better quality of life’.

He wrote in a blog post after the cycle: “I feel so proud of what we have achieved and thank all who have contributed with pledges, kind words and genuine heartfelt support from the bottom of my heart.”

Jason wanted to raise the cash to help pay for a few more treatments and some special food for Roxy to help her quality of life, as it is expected she will not live longer than two years old.

He said: “I would never want to be in a position where my dog could not have the quality of life it deserved.”

Roxy’s owner, Jill Holdsworth, from South Yorkshire, was left ‘devastated’ by Roxy’s illness. But she is overwhelmed by the support Jason’s campaign has had.
