Teenager arrested at far right march

Connor Gullivier, of Byron Road, was charged under Section 5 of the 1986 Public Order Act and released on bail to appear at Burton Magistrates at a future date.

Four other men, a 19-year-old from Northamptonshire and a 34-year-old from Derbyshire, and two men aged 18 and 32 from Burton, were also arrested. They all remain on bail pending further inquiries.

The Britain First marched through the town centre on Saturday afternoon and held a rally in protest at plans to extend a mosque in the town.

Staffordshire Police estimated that approximately 210 people joined the Britain First protest, and more than 250 anti-racism campaigners demonstrated against them.

The two groups were kept apart by dozens of police officers and steel fence cordons in the biggest policing operation in Burton’s history.

Several town centre shops shut for the afternoon while the marches took place, but aside from some verbal exchanges there were no clashes.

Britain First claimed that up to 2,000 people had pledged their support to join the march when it was announced last month.

The group was formed in 2011 by former British National Party and English Defence League members, to protest against immigration, multiculturalism and what it sees as the ‘Islamification’ of Britain.
