The Star Pet contest ran in Autumn last year and invited readers to enter their pets for a chance to scoop a prize and the prestigious title.

Countless entries were received and readers voted in their hundreds to put Teddy on the top spot.

“Teddy really deserves to win the title,” said owner Karon Rogers of Sutton. “He is such a special dog as he suffered health problems when he was younger but despite this he is a really happy chap.”

Teddy was out walking with his owner one day when he suddenly lost the use of his back legs.

“We took him to the vets who x-rayed him and suggested he go for an MRI scan,” explained Karon. “It was discovered he had a blood clot on his spinal chord and he had to spend time in the animal hospital to see if it would disperse.”

It was a long, and expensive, road to recovery for Teddy including hydrotherapy sessions and physiotherapy for a year to get him back on his feet again.

“I really wanted him to win as he is such a lovely dog,” added Karon who loves to spoil him. “As soon as I saw him I fell in love with him and he loves getting lots of attention and is very affectionate.”

Both Karon and her husband Glynn agree that Teddy is a worthy winner: “He’s gorgeous.”

Overall 715 people voted in the Chad/Hucknall contest in total over all the rounds.

In the final round (top ten vote) 296 votes were received, 151 of which were for Teddy. The prize was a canvas of the winner’s favourite photo from picanova.co.uk.
