The Aldi store, which has created 25 new jobs, was opened for business by the lucky local shoppers after they won a competition with the Mansfield Chad, which also entitled them to a free £50 shop.

They were joined by sailing champion Saskia Clark, a Team GB hero who won Olympic Gold at the Rio Olympic Games last year.

Saskia joined the competition winners to open the Sutton-in-Ashfield store as part of Aldi’s sponsorship of Team GB. The sponsorship includes Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh schools programme, which offers free, curriculum-linked resources featuring Team GB athletes to inspire children to cook and eat healthy, fresh food.

It wasn’t just the four winners that celebrated the store’s launch. The first 100 shoppers through the doors were issued with a golden raffle ticket entitling them to a free product from Aldi’s premium ‘Specially Selected’ range and its selection of seasonal Specialbuys.

Emma Cheetham, Store Manager at Aldi Mansfield Road, said: “We’re committed to championing British products and offering shoppers access to healthy food at unbeatable prices. This is why more and more people are choosing to do their grocery shopping with Aldi. We’re looking forward to welcoming people through our doors in the coming days and becoming part of the local community.”

Saskia Clark, said: “As an athlete, I know how important it is to eat healthy, fresh food. So it’s really great to see Aldi supporting initiatives such as Get Set To Eat Fresh, which helps raise awareness around healthy eating in schools.”
