Traders have hailed the revamp of Sutton's Idlewells indoor market now work has finished.The market has undergone a £1,8 million refurbishment over the past year and now boasts a reconfigured layout, improved accessibility and more natural lighting.Alan Bakalarczyk, of Alan's Family Butchers, has said he feels the improvements have brought it 'bang up to date'. He said: 'The future of the market can only be good; it must be the most up to date market for miles around.'A new ramp, window and signage have been added to the Market Street entrance, while the old entrance to the underground car park, which is no longer in use, has been sealed off. Ashfield District Council, which is beind the development, said it was a 'soft launch', with more traders and an official opening expected in January.Samantha Scothern, of Geoff Websters Butchers, said the refurbishment has made for a better environment for both traders and shoppers. She said: 'It is now a cleaner, fresher and more appealing place to be for all age groups. 'Overall, we are very impressed at how it is looking and are very excited to be part of it.'A skylight has been added to the market to let in natural light and unusual ceiling decoration has been added. Caribbean food trader De Yabba Pot and beauty specialist Beauty Zone have set up stalls in the market since work was finished.Melissa Calders, of Jenny's Lingerie, said: 'We hope the new-look market will now encourage new businesses to come forward, as well as bringing in a new, larger customer base.'The central layout has been changed with an 'oasis' seating area where market bosses are hoping to house eight new food outlets.Customers can now enjoy free Wi-Fi access within the market.Joy Hoskins, of Memory Lane Cards, said: 'The improvements are outstanding '“ the atmosphere of the market has changed incredibly.
