Sutton youngsters fundraise with cake sale and gig

Enterprising youngsters are in Sutton town centre today to raise money for a good cause.

The young adults are part of the National Citizen Service, which gives 15 to 17-year-olds the opportunity to fundraise, help in their community and build transferable skills.

Katie Barnard, 16, is taking part in the row-a-thon and cake sale in the market today to raise money for their chosen charity, Notts County Football in the Community.

She said: "The experience has been amazing- the NCS is a four week programme that is government funded, and you spend four weeks after your GCSEs to take you out of your comfort zone.

"The first week, we went camping to learn to be independent and push your limit, and in the second week we visit universities and learn to work as a team.

"The fourth week is all about giving back to the community, which is why we're fundraising today.

To raise more for their chosen charity, the team have organised a gig night tonight at the Maze, Nottingham at 7pm.

Entry is a minimum £3 donation, and the acts will be Kelsey Shaw, Nitro Glitz, and Distant Blue
