SKEGBY -ST ANDREW’S CHURCH: There was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity session last Monday week and a 20-minutes’ prayer period, on Thursday week. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, celebrated Sunday week’s early said and later sung parish Holy Communions. The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, assisted at the later service. Organist was John Dunn. Martyn Bowler and Sheila Shepherd gave Bible readings and Celia Kellett led prayers. Susan Pratchett and Yvonne Swain were in the ministry team and stewards were Lesley and Tony Cooke. June Bowler and Marilyn Turner served refreshments. Mike and Mary Collins and Hilary Hillman led junior church at the church hall.
RAINBOWS: At a hedgehog-theme meeting recently star of the week awards went to Thea Evans and Darcey Rowe. At last Wednesday week’s animal-theme activity and outdoor games meeting new leaders Samantha Speed-Morris, Kayleigh Webb and Katrina Rose-Waples were welcomed. Star of the week awards were given to Scarlett Arapi and Heather Bailey at Wednesday week’s meeting. Members had pond dipping and a treasure hunt at Brierley Forest Park. Birthday greetings were given to Katie Barnes. Leaders Pam, Jo and Bethany Peake, Sam Speed-Morris, Jamie Brelsford and Katrina Rose-Waples were assisted by Guide Charlotte Peake.
GUIDES: Members had pond dipping and games at Brierley Forest Park on Wednesday week. They also had a barbecue with toasted marshmallows. Leaders were Erika Marshall, Pam and Beth Peake and Rachel Schofield.
BEECHWOOD COURT: Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, welcomed 38 members to Thursday week’s meeting and was bingo caller. Mesdames M. Hoyland, S. Clarke and S. Key served teas and Messrs A. Key, R. Birkin, J. Clarke and T. Rowe did kitchen duties. Ticket sellers and bingo helpers were Mr Birkin, Mr Clarke and Mesdames M. Marchant, M. Gwynn, Key and J. Turner. Mrs Gwynn provided refreshments and members played cards. Birthday greetings were given to Mrs M. Hayes and wedding anniversary ones, to Mr and Mrs Broadbelt.
METHODIST CHURCH: The Rev Judith Shewen conducted Sunday week’s service and celebrated communion. Door stewards Brenda and Trevor Johnson also served refreshments. Vestry stewards Howard and Eileen Lawrence gave Bible readings. Denise Matters opened the service and led intercessions. Di Smith operated the clavinova. Doris Taylor manned the sound mixer desk and gave a PowerPoint presentation. Communion stewards were Rita Kirkwood and Sue Drury. Shannon and Megan Jones, Eva Harrison and Bethany Hart took the offertory. Howard Lawrence assisted at communion. Anne and John Baines led junior church.
G FORCE LINE DANCING: Members did country, pop and Celtic dances at yesterday week’s meeting at Anchor Centre.
STANTON HILL - BB/GA: Activities at Thursday week’s meeting, attended by 10 members, included planting, drawing and sports. Leader was Sharon Craddock.
BAPTIST CHURH: Mr Les Barnard led Sunday week’s all-age service. Pianist was Mrs Hazel Williams and reader was Mr Alf Halfpenny. The church was open for prayer last Monday week and there was carpet bowls at the sports hall. There was a prayer lunch on Thursday week. In the evening Shirley Dicks hosted Bible study at her home. Sensei Michael Burke, of Zanshin Karate Association, led karate classes in the sports hall on Saturday week.
SHINE: Members had bingo, chat, a quiz and refreshments at yesterday week’s meeting at Brand Court.
TEVERSAL - ST KATHERINE’S CHURCH: The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, led Sunday week’s evensong and gave a talk called Jesus is Alive. He presented a cheque for £240, proceeds of last year’s harvest supper, to Andrew Jenkins for the church’s link village in Bangladesh. Janet Pursglove led intercessions and churchwarden Rose Singleton gave a Bible reading. Organist was John Dunn. Church stewards were Jean Hickman and Averil Higginson. After the service the vicar and the congregation went to Buttery Lane to say prayers over the crops for Rogation Sunday. There was prayer and Bible study last Tuesday week. Members of Christian stitchcraft group met at the Scout Hut on Thursday week.
