Sutton swimmers shine

Sutton Swimming Club enjoyed a superb County Championships over the past month.

Matthew Woodhall was overall county champion in the nine-year-old age group, Ruslans Golubs (14), was crowned the junior county champion in a number of events and Neve Fergie (14) was also crowned as the junior county champion in the 100m freestyle event.

Other swimmers finishing in the top 10 in their respective age groups were Chloe Quinn (2nd in 11yrs), Owen Harding (4th in 9yrs), Mia Fergie (4th in 12yrs), Chloe Peach (5th in 13yrs), Jim Fergie (8th in 12yrs) and Sophie Bunker (8th in 14yrs).

The Sutton swimmers won a total of 42 top three medals in the Championships, achieved well over 200 personal best times, including a record number of Midland Region qualification times, and secured 81 new all-time club record times across the various age groups.

Sutton’s swimmers wore their new county t-shirts and swim caps which Coun Jason Zadrozny of Ashfield District Council had contributed towards.
