“We truly believe this stems from the excellent teamwork, hard work and dedication which exists on every level from the staff, governors, children and parents and we are delighted that we now have the external recognition from Ofsted to confirm this.”

The grading is a leap from the school’s previous grade of satisfactory during its last inspection.

Miss Varley added: “We constantly strive for the highest academic levels and offer a wide range of additional opportunities to our children.

“I cannot thank everyone at the school enough for their total dedication to our children.”

The report outlines and praises the pupils’ approach to learning.

It reads: “All pupils achieve well. All make at least good progress and many make outstanding progress over time.

“Standards in reading, writing and, in particular, mathematics and English grammar, punctuation and spelling, are well above those found in most schools nationally.”

Inspectors observed 22 lessons, three jointly with the headteacher, and all full-time teachers were seen teaching.

The report also highly praised teaching staff at the Henning Lane school.

“Nearly all teaching is good and much is outstanding,” said the report.

“Classrooms typically hum with the sounds of busy children.

“Pupils’ attitudes to learning are exemplary. A well-disciplined sense of independent curiosity is instilled in the Early Years Foundation Stage, and is consolidated and extended thereafter as pupils move through the school.”
