Sutton principal is sad to say farewell

Tim Croft has been leading Sutton Community Academy, High Pavement, for the last four years.However, he is now moving to lead an academy in Derbyshire. He said the decision to move was “very difficult” and he will leave the job with “very fond memories” from his time at Sutton.Mr Croft said he will leave the school in a “strong position” as it is now rated outstanding for behaviour and leadership by education watchdog Ofsted. He said: “My time at the school has been fantastic. “The staff and students are any schools’ biggest asset and it is these I will miss the most.”He will leave behind the 700 students at the school aged 11 to 18 to become headteacher at The Bolsover School, Mooracre Lane, Bolsover. He will also lead the Redhill Academy Trust as executive principal, supporting other schools in Derbyshire. He said: “I have a desire to improve other schools not in as strong a position as Sutton. “I am excited about the prospect of working for Redhill developing a new Derbyshire hub of schools.”Mr Croft’s last day will be on Thusday, May 31, when David Mackey, Sutton’s current head of sixth form will take over as acting principal for 12 months initially. A decision on a permanent principal is due to be made by Easter 2019.Mr Croft said: “Mr Mackey will do a great job and already runs the school very well when I am not in.” Since the announcement many students, parents and staff have commented on the changes. Former student Sam Buckland, posting on the school’s Facebook page said: “A top man could not have asked for a better person to help me though my school years.I wish you all the best in you new adventure.”And Lesley Lee posted: “Good luck Mr Croft, and congratulations Mr Mackey, a brilliant replacement.”Louise Jones posted: “Thank you Mr Croft for doing a brilliant job. I wish you all the luck in your new venture and wish Mr Mackey all the luck in the world aswell.”
