Gordon, 80 signed up for his first Target Twelve Hundred challenge shortly after his wife, Dinah, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011.

The fundraising initiative asks people to pledge to raise £1,200 in 12 months, any way they want to. Gordon has organised a range of events to smash his targets over the past four years, including charity dinners, a mince pie and coffee morning and a breakfast morning.

Gordon’s final fundraising challenge was a bowls tournament at Teversal Bowls Club on Sunday August 23.

The event raised almost £400 taking Gordon’s fundraising over his £1,200 target and increasing his total raised since 2010 to over £6,000.

Gordon, who has completed Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Target Twelve Hundred challenge more times than any other fundraiser, said:

“Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Target Twelve Hundred challenge is a great way to raise money for a fantastic cause. When Dinah was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease it was a huge shock to our family. I had heard of it but I had no idea of the effect the disease has not just on the individual but those around them too. To be told your wife has a disease from which she isn’t going to get better, only worse, is incredibly hard to accept.
