A planning application to build 50 dwellings on the former quarry site has also recently been submitted to Ashfield District Council.

Said Paul Brown, managing director: “The business has grown due to the reputation we have built in the local area for serving bereaved families in their time of need.

“We are moving nearby and the plans for the new premises are fantastic.

“Because the business has grown and is growing, it’s the right move for us to make at the right time.”

Paul took over the business in 2010 from the Wass family and has continued to build upon the service they offered.

The number of funerals they organise has more than doubled and it now employs nine members of staff.

Paul and his colleague Vicki McPhilbin-Graney are fully-qualified and licensed funeral directors and are even part of the worldwide disaster management team that responds to terrorist incidents and natural disasters.

Wass’ will continue to operate from The Quarry as normal until the new building is ready, meaning that the site will be constantly occupied.
