Sutton family's appeal for support to help Iyra walk

The dream for a little Sutton girl to walk unaided is one step closer as people back the campaign.

Three-year-old Iyra Austin was born nine weeks prematurely which led to complications – and at aged 10 months she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Now an entertainment evening is being planned to help raise the vital £50,000 she needs for an operation to walk unaided.

Mum Shontelle said: “We can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity, but we haven’t reached our target yet, so we wanted to create a fun night for everyone.”

So far, nearly £5,000 has been raised to cover the costs of private consultations and physiotherapy appointments, as well as the operation which is not available on the NHS.

On Saturday, May 14 the family have booked a room at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, Mansfield – and, now they are calling on people to help.

Shontelle said: “If you can sing or tell jokes or own a catering shop we need you to make our night a success.”

The event is relying solely on donations and people offering their time to help.

Shontelle said: “Together we can all make a difference.”
