Stephen Anderson was pulled over after he was seen speeding on Skegby Lane, in the early hours of July 14.

A roadside test revealed he had 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

“He was then taken to the police station where he said he wouldn’t give samples there and didn’t give any medical reasons why he shouldn’t,” said prosecutor Robert Carr.

Saraha Neale, mitigating, said Anderson had been working in Bedford with a “pressurised” colleague, and “unfortunately that rubbed off on him.”

He wanted to relax with his partner and drank three pints, but didn’t believe he would be over the limit, she added.

He “panicked” in the police station when he realised he would lose his job, she said, adding he was refused a drink of water, and felt “somewhat aggrieved.”

Anderson, 21, of Strawberry Bank, Huthwaite, admitted failing to provide a specimen, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.

He was fined £500, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £50 government surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, but was offered a drink drive rehabilitation course which will cut his disqualification by 25 per cent if completed within a certain time.
