Sutton dancer urges people to combat winter blues with new Strictly Come Dancing fitness classes

A Sutton dance teacher hopes to get people in Mansfield and Ashfield to work off those extra pounds piled on over the Christmas period with a new fitness programme.

Fitsteps is a new way to dance, keep fit and even better, you don’t need a partner to do it with.

Ellie Cobb (30) has trained with Olympic swimmer, Mark Foster, and Strictly professionals, Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite, to try and bring the mixture of Latin and ball room dance to the area.

As a professional dancer, Ellie, has performed in musical theatre production, We Will Rock You, taken part in the BBC’s Christmas feature on the Tiller Girls and taught at Kirkby-based The Christine March School of Dance.

She said: “I was personally trained by both Natalie and Ian and I am very excited to bring Fitsteps to the Mansfield and Ashfield area.

“Fitsteps is based around Strictly Come Dancing and is a fantastic way to get people in our area fit.

“It is a cardio workout using everything, but also uses some of the basics from Latin and ball room dancing.

“It is ideal if you want to come alone as you don’t need a partner. There isn’t really any other similar type of classes like it so I am urging people to give it a try.”

Ellie trained at the Midlands Academy for Dance and Drama based in Nottingham and is eager to start teaching Fitsteps in the New Year.

Classes are open to all abilities over 16 and no previous dancing experience is needed to take part.

The former Ashfield Comprehensive student added: “I will be launching my classes in the New Year as a push to promote fitness and healthy living. It’s great fun and people will notice a difference every single time they come.

“It is a brilliant way to combat winter blues. There is no commitment to it, I just ask people come along and see if they like it.”

As well as working off the pounds you can also save pounds with an exclusive offer in Chad for money off your first taster class.

Classes are £4 each but will be half price for the first taster class throughout January.

The classes will take place at the following times in the New Year: Monday 9:30am-10:30am Anchor Centre, Skegby

Monday 6:45pm-7:45pm Ashfield School, Kirkby
