Sutton Community Academy to get new roofs at cost of £1 million

The roof replacement scheme at Sutton Community Academy will see all of its flat roofs replaced in order to preserve the buildings throughout the campus and to help make energy cost savings.

The money has been secured by the Academy Transformation Trust - which Sutton Community Academy is part of - through the school condition allocation from the Education Funding Agency.

This money is only available to academies that are part of a trust with more than five academies and 3,000 or more pupils in total.

General Asphalt has been appointed as the contractor and the work should be finished by early 2016.

Ian Cleland, chief executive of Academy Transformation Trust, said: “We aim to create a safe and stable learning environment in each of our academies for all of our pupils in order to provide them with the very best education.

“Academies which are a part of ATT have access to unique opportunities such as this to improve their academies and make them fit for the future.

“We are pleased to be able to support Sutton Community Academy in carrying out this essential work and we look forward to seeing the final result.”

The safety of pupils, staff and residents will be maintained at all times and disruption should be minimal.

The work is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

This project at Sutton Community Academy is part of a larger £13m programme of investment to improve academy buildings and estates throughout the ATT over the next three years.

First opening its doors in 1973, Sutton Centre Community College became Sutton Community Academy in January 2012, sponsored by Academy Transformation Trust.

A huge refurbishment programme has subsequently taken place, which has seen new boilers installed, new windows fitted and the refurbishment of classrooms.

The Academy has also invested in a brand new reception, major electrical installations and a complete refurbishment of the sixth form study centre and common room, plus a revamp of the kitchen and many other projects.
