Susie turns life around with day services

An Ashfield resident with a learning disability who used to spend every day alone in her flat has turned her life around thanks to her local day service.

Susie Johnson, 34, was extremely lonely and was referred by her social worker to Ashfield Day Service seven months ago due to concerns about social isolation. Shortly after starting at the day service Susie lost her close friend which had a significant impact on her health and wellbeing.

Susie said: “I love coming to the day service and I have my nails and hair done here, bake, carry out art activities and play bingo.

“I have made so many friends here and I had the best Christmas in ten years as it was organised for me to attend a meal with other people who live alone. The staff at the day service support me and have given me more confidence.

“Before coming to the day service I just sat at home all day on my own and was very lonely.

“I have so much more confidence now and I go out on the days I don’t come to the day service. I currently have a support worker but I am hoping to live more independently now I have more confidence.”
