Initial consultation was carried out last year with local businesses, market traders and shoppers to gain feedback on the market and suggestions about how it could be improved.

As a result of this consultation and work carried out the council has drawn up a number of proposals for shoppers, members of the public, existing and previous traders, businesses and partners to comment on.

The market has rapidly declined in recent years with councillors and Mansfield MP Alan Meale calling for action to turn around its ailing fortunes

CounKate Allsop, portfolio holder for economic regeneration at Mansfield District Council, said: “This consultation is part of a wider strategy to revitalise and reinvigorate Mansfield market and we are keen to take on board the views of people who live, work and shop in Mansfield.

“For many years, the market has been a focal point of the town centre and we are working hard to make improvements so it once again becomes a community resource that Mansfield is proud of.”

The survey is available online at www.mansfield.gov.uk/marketconsultation and closes on Friday 18th April 2014.
