Surgery criticised by its patients is handed '˜good' rating

Oakwood Surgery in Mansfield Woodhouse was the lowest ranked in the region following a recent patient satisfaction survey.

Doctors from the The Church Street practice are disappointed, but are now looking into where to improve.

Staff also said that an inspection by staff from health watchdog the Care Quality Commission in April found it to be “good” across all areas, with no cause for concern.

GP partner Dr Khalid Butt said: “The practice delivers the highest quality of care.

“We accept the findings of the survey and appreciate why some of our patients may be concerned.

“We serve 13,597 patients and continually receive positive NHS England ‘Friends and Family Test’ feedback which measures whether people would recommend us.

“The survey results are disappointing and we’re looking at the feedback to understand what we can do to improve.”

Key areas in which Oakwood patients were unhappy with making appointments and waiting times.

The surgery is lining up two additional GPs to start next month, but says patients missing appointments has become a problem, with 778 non-attendees in the last three months.

Dr Butt said: “This is a hugely significant cost to the NHS and also impacts on the ability of the practice to plan effective clinical cover for all our patients.

“We are aware appointments delays can be an issue with many of our patients and we are working hard to find ways to relieve pressure on the GPs.”

In the survey, Oakwood was ranked 7,069th out of the UK’s 7,612 surgeries.

It looked at areas such as booking appointments and whether patients would recommend the surgery.

Oakwood’s lowest score was in patient recommendations, with less than 50 per cent saying they would endorse the surgery.

Nearly 87 per cent had trust in their GP.

The top performing from the region was Churchside Medical Practice on Mansfield’s Wood Street, finishing in 291st position.
