Supporting the National Trust

We want to put all the unsung groups that represent the beating hearts of our communities in the spotlight.

The latest organisation to come under the GrassRoots Spotlight is....the Mansfield Centre for the National Trust.

Tell us about your group...

The Mansfield Centre of the National Trust are a group of National Trust members, launched by local people, who come together once a month.

When and where do you meet?

We meet on the first Tuesday of the month, from September to May, at St. John’s Centre, St John’s Street, Mansfield.

How long has your group been running and who was it launched by?

The group has been running for 32 years and was launched by local National Trust members.

What do you offer your members and what activities do you get up to?

The committee organise speakers to present on a variety of subjects. In addition we organised at least two outings per year to other National Trust properties and usually a coach is laid on for this, for a small charge. We have recently undertaken promotional activities at Clumber Park to encourage new members and intend repeating this at other locations.

Age of oldest member and youngest members? Family ties etc...

Our youngest member is 37 and our oldest is 93.

Does your group have any claims to fame/funny stories, or has it had any famous members?

Claims to fame are donating to other National Trust properties in the area i.e. a virtual tour video of Mr. Straw’s house, chain saw carved furniture at Hardwick Hall from a felled tree, displayed in the Cart Shed, a display cabinet in the Workhouse at Southwell, as well as the Delving Deeper room in the Discovery Centre at Clumber Park.

Do you have any ongoing campaigns?

Our ongoing campaigns are pulling in new members, supporting local NT properties and contributing to the cleaning and restoration of a painting.
