The Sweet Explosion has moved from a simple store at Sutton’s Indoor Market to setting up shop in the Idlewells Shopping Centre itself - signalling another retail success for the Sutton mall.

It officially opened its doors on Saturday and co-owner Rachel Taylor-Colclough said it ‘was absolutely crazy’, with lots of people flocking to the shop to sample their sweet treats.

The Sweet Explosion had only been at the market for six months before owners Rachel and Jason Colcough decided to open the shop, signalling a swift - but sweet - taste of business success.

“It just started when we did craft fairs and school fairs,” said Rachel.

“It proved to be really popular and just grew and grew and here we are!”

The Idlewells centre management team has now helped three independent Sutton retailers open up stores in the centre in the past two years, providing a good boost for the local retail economy.

Rachel said that The Sweet Explosion is now starting to work with the JobCentre to look at getting young people into the shop on work experience and hopes that they will soon be able to take on an apprentice too.
