Poet and Performer, Dreadlock Alien visited Sutton Community Academy to speak to the school’s Year 8 students hosting an X-factor style Poetry Slam.
Students created their own performance poetry and bought their act to the stage. Throughout the day the students worked with the poet to create topical and poignant and imaginative poems. In the afternoon a small group of writers attended a master class on writing. The students performed to a panel of judges and judged for their originality, performance and speech. Dreadlock Alien uses hip-hop dub flow verse to address social issues such as citizenship, identity, immigration and Black British experiences.
