The evening saw over 60 prizes given to students who have shown either academic excellence or have contributed to academy or community life.

Pupils in each subject area nominated three people in their classes, with one winner being invited to the ceremony.

None of them knew which subject they had been successful in, so it was an ‘Oscar’s style’ surprise as they waited with family to hear.

There were also winners for ‘contribution to academy life’ and ‘contribution to the community’.

The evening was rounded off with Betty Harrison being voted ‘academy student of the year’.

Academy Principal, Mr Barry Found, said: “It all about our students, their achievements and their successes. It’s one of those occasions that reminds us at the academy why we do the job we do”.
