Student turns life around

A Sutton Community Academy student has been shortlisted for the finals of the Nottinghamshire Young People of the Year award.

Natalie Hill was nominated for completely turning her behaviour around after she was involved in anti-social behaviour.

The student realised she had to change so she could be the kind of role model she needed to be for her baby brother after he almost died several times due to a rare medical condition.

Natalie undertook charity work, donating her hair to the Little Princesses trust, and became a peer mentor working with and supporting students across the school. She also worked extra hard to achieve an A in English Literature.

A spokesman for Sutton Community Academy said; “She is an amazing example and a role model to all.

“She no longer gets involved in any conflict and her teachers often comment on what a lovely person she is.”

Natalie attended an award ceremony at Kelham Hall, Newark, where she gave a speech on stage for an audience of hundreds and answered questions about the work she had done.

Though Natalie did not win, she was awarded a £50 cheque which she has donated to King’s Mill Children’s Ward.

The spokesman added: “We were all very proud of how Natalie conducted herself.”
