Stone throwing bridge yobs hunt

Police have pledged to take the strongest possible action against anyone caught throwing objects at cars in Mansfield.

The warning comes after motorists driving along Quarry Lane in the town reported five incidents in the last seven days.

Insp Neil Williams, in charge of Neighbourhood policing in Mansfield, said: “What we appear to have here is a group of idiots who think it’s clever to throw things off a bridge at vehicles passing below.

“Since last Monday, we’ve have five incidents reported to us, with items thrown including bricks, stones, small tree branches and bits of wood, and even a beer can.

“Thankfully no-one has been hurt and only one vehicle has actually been damaged, but we are determined to catch whoever is responsible before someone is seriously injured or killed.

“Whether these people don’t realise how dangerous their actions are, or whether they just don’t care, this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“We’ve already increased patrols in the area and are working to identify the offenders from descriptions given to us by members of the public, and I can assure the people of Mansfield that we will take the strongest possible action when we catch them.”
