Steelers boost for Mansfield school

The Mansfield-based specialist school helps youngsters aged between three and 19 with physical and sensory needs and is in desperate need of money to enable them to purchase new equipment.

Hall-Fast have committed to raising money for them and are on target to raise over £50,000 within two years.

And, as one of the Steelers’ leading backers, they arranged for players from the Elite League club to pay a special visit.

“It really was great to visit the school and see the youngsters,” said Canadian forward Jeff Legue.

“All of the players were talking about what the club could do for the kids and we all agreed that a Teddy Bear Toss, a tradition that has become very popular in North America, would be a great start!”

The Teddy Bear Toss will take place at this Saturday’s game with Coventry Blaze at the Motorpoint Arena.

Fans from both sides will be encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game and throw them onto the ice when the Steelers score their first goal.

The toys will then be gathered up and will be donated to the youngsters at the school.

In December 2013, a Teddy Bear Toss that took place in Calgary saw 26,000 teddy bears thrown onto the ice.
