STAN SHANKS: Divers carry out underwater searches missing 78-year-old

Specialist divers from Nottinghamshire Police searched a stretch of river from the weir at Ollerton Island, to the weir near Walesby Campsite.

An area of reed beds at Ollerton Pit Top Woods has also been searched.

The team will move on to fishing ponds, known as Little John Lakes, off Maida Lane, Ollerton, today (May 5).

Police are asking people to check their garages, sheds and any outbuildings and members of the community are urged to stay vigilant for any sightings of Stan.

Mr Shanks was last seen at about 9.30am on Friday, 29 April in Walesby Lane, near to the junction with White Water Road. He had also been seen earlier that morning at about 7.30am in Whinney Lane.

He is white, 5ft 3ins tall and wears glasses. He is of a broad build and balding. He also has some distinctive red markings on his head but usually wears a cap.

He was wearing a green hooded jacket, a red jumper – which he is wearing in this picture - and grey trousers.

The Nottinghamshire Police-led search continues to be supported by specialist units, Nottinghamshire Lowland Search and Rescue, the dog section and the National Police Air Support Unit. Members of the Ollerton community have also been out looking for Stan.
