Squeaky-clean success for football fundraiser

A team swapped soccer for sponges to take part in a charity car wash in memory of Lewis Close, the 14-year-old from Edwinstowe who died recently after returning from holiday.

The U14 side from Manor Black FC braved the weather to wash more than 30 cars on Sunday in the car park of The Sunnydale pub in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Overall, through washing the cars, selling wristbands and generous donations, more than £250 was raised to go towards the fund.

On top of this, Manor Black FC will be donating £200 of the club’s funds which will bring the total to an impressive £454.

Lee Proctor, manager of the football club, said: “I am so proud of everybody who helped us and the amount of money we have raised is amazing.”

Lewis died in Queen’s Medical Centre after he failed to recover from an operation in Turkey to have his appendix removed.

The Mighty Lewis Close fundraiser evening is on Saturday 16th November at The Fairways pub, where the grand total for all the different fundraising events will be announced.

Prior to that, there will be a zumba on 7th November at The Fairways at 6.30pm, and a fancy-dress zumba dance in the car park of the Park Hall Tavern in Mansfield Woodhouse on Saturday, 2nd November, from 2pm.
