A much needed bus service is set to be scrapped, despite residents fighting to save it.
The Spira Service, operated by TM Travel, runs from Sutton to Chesterfield via Stanton Hill, Teversal, Fackley and Tibshelf .
However, residents raised concerns about plans to scrap the service at the end of February,.
Nottinghamshire County Council will reroute the 417 bus to call at both Teversal and Fackley.
David Bowden, general manager of TM Travel said: “The cancellation is not about profitability, the service just does not cover its running costs.
“I did contact Nottinghamshire County Council, to see if any funding would be available to plug the gap, but they have not engaged.
“To hear of a NCC funded bus being diverted to cover Teversall, it is rather infuriating.
“It’s not that we don’t want to cover these areas, or want the communities to be cut off, but we just can’t afford to keep the service running.
The Teversall, Stanton Hill and Skegby Neigbourhood Forum were due to set up a public transport action group to oppose the cut.
Chris Ward, Nottinghamshire County Council transport and travel services manager said: “The county council is aware that the Spira bus service is being withdrawn from the end of Februa
“To ensure that residents in the Teversal area continue to have access to health and essential shopping facilities, we will be revising the route of the 417 local service operated by our fleet transport service to include this area.
“We recognise that this does not replace the Spira service in all areas, however, there is a limited budget for supporting services which is already fully committed.
We will be reviewing the transport network over the next few months and, if opportunities arise to improve services for local communities, we will look to do so.”
