A FLASHING sign at Meden Vale will put the skids under speeding motorists, councillors are hoping.
The electronic sign, which tells drivers what speed they are travelling at, is close to the junction of Netherfield Lane and Tissington Avenue and was bought using Nottinghamshire County Council money.
Costing around £7,000, county councillor John Allin has worked with district councillor Derek Evans to have the sign put in place, but they are uncertain how successful ity will be.
Coun Evans said: “It’s early days but hopefully it will encourage people to slow down.
“Speed in the area is a problem generally so we have to get over to people to ease off.
“Over the years there have been countless accidents with people being killed.
“Over the December period just gone, two front walls have been demolished so we just need to see if this sign will work.
“We have to be careful with expenditure, but I would like to see more along that stretch of road, especially going the other way.”
